Association of vitamin D receptor polymorphisms with the risk of nonmelanoma skin cancer in adults

Burns EM, et al. – The existence of the correlation between the polymorphisms in the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene with the development of nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) along with the demographic features of the individuals were investigated in this study. Beneficial results were yielded with regard to the early treatment and prevention of NMSC with chemopreventive agents (for those with the BsmI single–nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)). The prioritization of the significance of sun protection, skin cancer prevention and the resultant decrease in the skin cancer burden could be brought about via BsmI SNP screening.
