Assessing the prognostic features of a pain classification system in advanced cancer patients

Supportive Care in Cancer Aug 09, 2017

Arthur J, et al. – The authors examined the relationship between Edmonton Classification System for Cancer Pain (ECS–CP) features and pain treatment outcomes among outpatients managed by a palliative care specialist–led interdisciplinary team. In advanced cancer pain management, neuropathy was found to be a poor prognostic feature. At the follow–up visit when the pain was managed by a palliative medicine specialist, increasing sum of ECS–CP features was not predictive of pain management complexity. To further explore these observations, further research was needed.
