Prognostic implications of cardiac magnetic resonance feature tracking derived multidirectional strain in patients with chronic aortic regurgitation

Fernández-Golfín C, Hinojar-Baydes R, González-Gómez A, et al. - The present study was performed to evaluate cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) feature tracking (FT) deformation parameters in asymptomatic patients with aortic regurgitation (AR) and implications in outcomes. Researchers enrolled a total of 55 individuals with AR and 54 controls. They evaluated conventional functional CMR parameters, aortic regurgitant volume, and fraction. They further conducted CMR-FT analysis with dedicated software. The data exhibited that CMR-FT myocardial deformation parameters are impaired in patients with AR not meeting surgical criteria. This study’s findings demonstrate that global longitudinal strain reduces early in the course of the disease and is a marker of AR severity while GCS and global radial strain worsen later but predict a bad prognosis, mainly the need of aortic valve surgery.
