Thicknesses of sclera and lamina cribrosa in patients with central retinal vein occlusion

Retina Sep 27, 2020

Adiyeke SK, Kutlu N, Aytogan H, et al. - In this investigation involving 32 patients (mean age 62.2 ± 11.6 years, women/men 18/14) and 35 age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers, researchers sought to assess thicknesses of sclera and lamina cribrosa (LC) in central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). Using anterior segment optical coherence tomography, the scleral thickness was measured at the scleral spur and at 1 to 3 mm from scleral spur in four quadrants (temporal, nasal, super, and inferior). Using optic disk enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography, lamina cribrosa was measured. In CRVO, sclera and LC thicknesses are increased, which may play a role in the disease's pathogenesis.
