Journal of Periodontology Aug 26, 2020
Fu E, Cheng CM, Chung CH, et al. - This study was intended to assess the relationship between periodontitis and prostate diseases of benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostatitis. In this analysis, 5,510 patients with newly diagnosed chronic periodontitis and participated in therapies were selected from 2000 to 2015 as cohort 1, from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan. Matched with age and index year, researchers selected 5,510 patients with periodontitis diagnosis without therapy as cohort 2, and 5,510 participants without a diagnosis were applied as a control. The risks and the survival probabilities among cohorts were compared by performing cox proportional hazard and survival analysis. In comparison with patients without periodontitis., the patients with periodontitis had a higher risk of developing prostatitis.
