Negative impact of being underweight on the outcomes of single-session shockwave lithotripsy in patients with upper urinary tract calculi: A retrospective cohort study
World Journal of Urology Apr 17, 2020
Yoshioka T, Omae K, Kawada T, et al. - Researchers undertook this retrospective two-centre cohort analysis in Japan to examine the link between being underweight and shockwave lithotripsy outcomes. This analysis included 597 patients who received a diagnosis of a single urinary tract calculus based on computed tomography and who were treated with shockwave lithotripsy between 2006 and 2016. Depending on body mass index, four groups were defined (underweight, ≤ 18.4; normal weight, 18.5–24.9; overweight, 25–29.9; obese, ≥ 30 kg/m2). Findings revealed that outcomes of shockwave lithotripsy were negatively influenced by being underweight in this sample of patients with upper urinary tract calculi.
