Contrast-enhanced ultrasound with dispersion analysis for the localization of prostate cancer: Correlation with radical prostatectomy specimens

World Journal of Urology Feb 26, 2020

Postema AW, Gayet MCW, van Sloun RJG, et al. - This study was carried out to assess the value of two-dimensional (2D) contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging and the additional value of contrast ultrasound dispersion imaging (CUDI) for the localization of clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa). Researchers included individuals with a radical prostatectomy who underwent 2D CEUS imaging preoperatively. This study included 133 of 216 (62%) individuals in the final analysis. For csPCa localization, the sensitivity and specificity of 2D CEUS and CUDI are moderate. Notwithstanding compressing CEUS in one image, CUDI displayed a similar performance to 2D CEUS. It could become a beneficial imaging procedure, with a sensitivity of 83% at cutoff point 3, particularly with the 4D acquisition, increased quantification and combination with other US imaging techniques such as elastography.
