Full thickness genital burns independently increase the odds of death among pediatric burn patients
Journal of Pediatric Urology Feb 07, 2020
Jimbo M, Overholt TL, Cosma GL, et al. - The present study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence of genital burns (GB) in pediatric burn individuals, and examine clinical characteristics including predictors of mortality. Researchers questioned the American Burn Association’s National Burn Repository to distinguish all pediatric burn individuals who presented to North American burn centers over 10 years. They enrolled a total of 38,211 pediatric burn individuals. All individuals aged ≥ 18 years, and individuals with unknown gender, race, and/or mortality were eliminated. The appearance of GB seems to be a strong marker of critical burn injury. Pediatric GB individuals require to be thoroughly evaluated and aggressively managed for additional injuries, complications, surgical needs, and mortality risk.
