Associations between age and dyslipidemia are differed by education level: The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases Etiology Research Center (CMERC) cohort
Lipids in Health and Disease Jan 26, 2020
Cho SMJ, et al. - Investigators explored the correlation between age and individual dyslipidemia parameters across education level among healthy, middle-aged Korean women. They designed a cross-sectional analysis of 2,049 middle-aged women. They categorized education attainment into the completion of elementary school or below, middle school, high school, college or above. They analyzed dyslipidemia in adherence to the 2018 Korean Dyslipidemia Treatment Guideline. They used multivariable logistic regression and generalized linear model to test the correlations between age and dyslipidemia parameters across education level and other known risk factors, including menopause, obesity, and current drinking and smoking. The data indicated that separate testing of individual dyslipidemia parameters showed varying degree of interaction with age and education level. Such results suggest that each type of lipid abnormality may originate from and be exacerbated by heterogeneous composition of biological and lifestyle risk factors, which may be reflected by education level.
