Mental health and experience of being bullied in 12-year-old children with overweight and obesity

Acta Pediatrica Jan 16, 2020

Hammar E, et al. - Investigators examined the correlation between weight, mental health, and the experience of being bullied in 12-year-old children. They also examined the impact of childhood psychosocial risk factors for overweight and obesity at age 12. Individuals who took part in the study were members of a Swedish prospective cohort. All 573 children were observed from maternal pregnancy to age 12. Overall, in comparison with normal-weight peers, overweight and obese children were found to be at increased risk of being bullied. Moreover, in multivariate analysis, no important variations in mental health were noted among normal weight, overweight, and obese children.
