Pain Practice Jan 16, 2020

Lin CL, et al. - Via performing a systematic review, researchers sought to determine how music therapy affects pain after orthopedic surgery. Searching the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Nursing Reference Center, Airiti Library, and National Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations in Taiwan up to August 2019, they selected nine randomized controlled trials for this work. Both music medicine (MM) and music therapy (MT) were identified as effective in significantly relieving pain. Music determined by the individuals exhibited significant differences for both MM and MT. Patients using MT show significant improvement in anxiety. Music can significantly relieve postoperative pain, specifically the music chosen by the participants.
