Long-term survival outcome after lobectomy in patients with clinical T1N0 lung cancer

The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Jan 16, 2020

Ito H, Suzuki K, Mizutani T, et al. - Researchers investigated long-term outcomes after lobectomy in cases with clinical T1N0 lung cancer based on thin-section CT. They categorized patients with pathological adenocarcinoma who had undergone lobectomy into four groups according to a consolidation/tumor ratio (CTR) and tumor size. Outcomes suggest excellent prognosis in patients with total tumor size ≤ 3 cm and CTR ≤ 0.5; these patients seem to be suitable candidates for sublobar resection. They suggest including segmentectomy in the standard of care on confirming the non-inferior survival of segmentectomy vs lobectomy in an ongoing JCOG trial.
