BMC Geriatrics Nov 28, 2019
Hestevik CH, et al. - By interrogating 23 healthcare professionals from hospital acute geriatric care and home care, researchers intended to gain insights into the experience of health professionals offering individualized nutritional care within the organisational frames of acute geriatric hospital care and home care. They identified two main themes and six sub-themes. Having a high focus on and priority of nutritional care when caring for older persons was reported by healthcare professionals. Owing to the complexity of the patients’ nutritional problems and constraints in the way nutritional care was organized, the practice of individualized nutritional care appeared challenging to healthcare professionals, as they stated. The insights significant for reducing the gap between older patients’ likings for care and nutritional care practice may be offered by this study, by unveiling the hurdles the healthcare professionals encounter when attempting to individualize the nutritional care.
