Three-month mortality in permanently bedridden medical non-oncologic patients. The BECLAP study (permanently BEdridden, creatinine CLearance, albumin, previous hospital admissions study)

European Journal of Internal Medicine Nov 23, 2019

Brucato A, Ferrari A, Tiraboschi M, et al. - A total of 2,788 consecutive persons admitted in five Italian Internal Medicine units from January 2016 through January 2017 were prospectively screened in order to prognosticate the 3-months mortality in permanently bedridden medical non-oncologic inpatients. Of 2,144 people chosen and followed-up for mortality for 6 months, 374 were permanently bedridden, 435 had a creatinine clearance < 35 ml/min, 217 albumin < 2.5 mg/dl, 112 at least two hospital admissions in the former 6 months. Nearly two out of three non-oncologic medical people permanently bedridden having two of the abovementioned items are deceased 3 months following index admission and a simplistic score comprising of bedridden status, creatinine clearance, albumin, dysphagia, age, and gender may aid in addressing management preeminences.
