Andrologia Oct 07, 2019
Garlantézec R, et al. - Via a cross-sectional study in four medical institutions in Argentina, among 537 male companions of couples consulting for infertility, between June 1999 and June 2015, researchers assess the association between maternal tobacco intake during pregnancy and sperm parameters and sexual hormonal levels of their sons in adulthood. Maternal tobacco intake during pregnancy was related to a significantly greater risk of decreased sperm count and raised total testosterone levels. No important correlation between maternal smoking and other sperm parameters nor other hormone levels were found. This study added evidence regarding the correlation between maternal tobacco intake during pregnancy and in adulthood, decreased sperm counts of their sons. Moreover, the results revealed a relationship between raised total testosterone levels and maternal tobacco intake required to be changed and updated.
