Association among genetic polymorphisms of GSTP1, HO-1, and SOD-3 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease susceptibility

International Journal of COPD Sep 13, 2019

Du Y, Zhang H, Xu Y, et al. - Researchers examined the link between genetic polymorphisms of GST, HO-1, and SOD [3 significant susceptibility genes associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)] and COPD susceptibility. They analyzed 300 blood samples from Control group and COPD group. Both the groups significantly differed with regard to genotype distributions and allele frequencies of GSTP1, HO-1, and SOD-3, while polymorphism of GSTP1, HO-1, SOD3 did not correlate with various stages of COPD. High-risk factors for COPD, as revealed in multivariate logistic regression analysis, were COPD GSTP1-exon5 SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) and HO-1 (GT)n SNP, and interaction between GSTP1 exon5 SNPS and HO-1 (GT)n SNP was also seen. Overall, findings revealed a link between genetic polymorphisms of GSTP1, HO-1, and SOD-3 and COPD susceptibility.
