The association between six month intra-dialytic resistance training and muscle strength or physical performance in patients with maintenance hemodialysis: A multicenter retrospective observational study
BMC Nephrology May 23, 2019
Moriyama Y, et al. - Because deleterious changes in muscle strength and physical performance among patients of maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) are related to increased mortality, researchers assessed how these parameters were influenced by a 6-month resistance exercise program during hemodialysis, three times per week on an outpatient basis. Overall 306 patients were asked to follow the training protocol that included two sets of 10 repetitions of knee extension, hip abduction, and hip flexion, using an elastic band in a sitting or supine position. In this study, improved muscle strength and physical performance were observed in relation to six-month resistance training in patients with MHD.
