Relationship between natural killer cell activity and glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes

Journal of Diabetes Investigation Mar 21, 2019

Kim JH, et al. - Investigators examined 49 candidates to assess the association of natural killer cell activity with glucose control in subjects with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. They observed lower NK cell activity in outpatients with type 2 diabetes (768.01 ± 650.35) when compared to those with prediabetes (2,396.08 ± 653.76) and normal glucose tolerance. They recorded a significant inverse linear relationship between NK cell activity and fasting plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and 2-h postload glucose level among candidates with type 2 diabetes. They found glycated hemoglobin an independent predictor of NK cell activity in patients with type 2 diabetes.
