Genetic polymorphisms in RANK and RANKL are associated with persistent apical periodontitis
Journal of Endodontics Mar 15, 2019
Petean IBF, et al. - In this study, 64 individuals were analyzed to study the relationship between receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B (RANK), receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL), and osteoprotegerin (OPG) genetic polymorphisms with determined apical periodontitis (PAP). Authors extracted genomic DNA from saliva and used for RANK (rs3826620), RANKL (rs9594738), and OPG (rs2073618) genotyping by real-time exact tests. A lower risk of having PAP was noticed in subjects who carry the T allele. Statistically significantly different genotype distribution was noted in RANKL polymorphism. They noted an association of time of follow-up with PAP. Using time as a covariant, A correlation of RANK and RANKL with PAP was reported.
