Gas leak and mucosal injury during endoscopic esophageal myotomy after previous myotomy: A single-center experience
Clinical and Experimental Gastroenterology May 28, 2021
Samo S, Hamo F, Jain AS, et al. - This study was intended to evaluate gas leak and mucosal injury incidence during Peroral endoscopic myotomy after prior myotomy (PM-POEM), compared to an index POEM (iPOEM), and post-procedure extubation time. Researchers conducted a retrospective study to compare PM-POEM with iPOEM between March 2016 and August 2018. Twenty-one individuals in the PM-POEM and 56 individuals in the iPOEM were included. The data demonstrate that conducting PM-POEM can be more difficult with more mucosal injuries. It was shown that gas leak was correlated with a slightly longer post-procedure extubation time, but clinical relevance is unclear given the incidence of the gas leak was unknown at the time of extubation.
